Choose Happiness and Global Design Project #GDP009

This week is a colour challenge!

GDP009 ChallengeEvery time I see these colours I tend to go toward the same stamp set…….but this time I’m going to try something a little different.

Recently I have been playing with watercolour paper and I love how the colours move and blend.

The stamp set I used is Choose Happiness, a beautiful set and one I have not used much.

My idea for this card just grew as I worked…made mistakes..no restarts, just kept working and letting it takes its natural course.

WP_001174

The flowers are embossed in clear, masking and stamping until I had 3 flowers.

Then after I gave the water paper a light coating of water I started adding the Watermellon Wonder to the flowers using the Stampin’ Write Markers and moving the ink around with a wet brush.

Adding more colour as I went to give more depth and allowing the ink to flow beyond the flowers.

Once dry I added the leaves and embossed those as well….adding  water to the area I painted the leaves in Mint Macaron and highlighted them with Tip Top Taupe.

The background started as a wash of Tip Top Taupe around the flowers to give depth and then a wash of Mint Macaron across the page.

but this still looked too clean…so I added the lace boarder, stamping off on scratch paper before stamping on my page.

I went over it with a large wet paintbrush to make it look blended and aged. To add to the effect I sponged the edges with Tip Top Taupe and with Mint Macaron.

This card is full of little mistakes that I worked over the top of and added to until I finished with something I am really pleased with….

I hope you are too.

“Home for Christmas” and Global Design Project #GDP008

“Home for Christmas….Hand-drawn imagery, evokes the nostalgic feelings of Christmas past.”

This is how Stampin’ Up! have described this Designer Series Paper and how true that is.

As soon as I saw this paper I could see myself as a little girl enjoying Christmas.

I love the Deer’s and I found Rudolf with his Red Nose. There’s Santa “Round and Jolly with sacks full of presents” and Christmas Tree’s decorated with presents too!

Its such a beautiful and tradition paper series…so I decided to use it for my GDP this week.

I’m running a class using this paper so why not use the “Case the Designer” as one of the class cards. Case the designerI love the card Kylie has done so keeping to the same layout here is my card for this weeks challenge.

I did say I found “Rudolf”

“Go Wild” with Global Design Project #GDP006

Couldn’t do last weeks Challenge, so I was so looking forward to seeing what the GDP Team had for us this week.

And here it is…..my brain was going all night trying to think of something that would stretch me…….!

GDP006Should I do soft and pretty? No always do that……

Had a look through my papers and I found….”Go Wild Designer series Paper” Not a lot as I purchased as part of a share.

Not something I would normally buy, OK this is the one!

And this is what I came up with….

WP_001136

I didn’t want to add too many lines on this card as the paper is very busy. The contrasting paper works well with a small amount of black either side to break it up.

To add  “POP” to the card I used the Cotton Paper in Watermellon Wonder and the Pansy Punch for the flower with a Antique Brad as its center.

The Wooden element to finish it off and to give the card a purpose.

Am I happy with it…Yes I am….did it stretch me…Yes I think it did.

Sometimes its good to do something that is different to what you would normally do…so why not have a go and see what you come up with.

Global Design Project #GDP004

The challenge this week is called “Case the Designer”.

Love this card that Louise has designed.

Case the designerHere are the Rules for this challenge……

You can be inspired by ANYTHING on this card. What inspires you in this card to make it your own?
Here are some ideas of what you could be inspired by –
Theme – Christmas
Layout – Do you see those gorgeous layers? They are 2mm or 1/16″
Colours – Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Very Vanilla and Gold Glimmer
Stamp set – Wondrous Wreath or something similar like Circle of Spring or others.
Embellishments – the crystal effects, Linen Thread or that gorgeous gold glimmer heart.
Gee!…..there’s lots to think about. What inspires me? Everything about this card inspires me!
OK….lets take 3 elements of this design that I like.
1. Wreath
2. heart
3. the subtle layers
So I hope you like my take on this card.
WP_001117
I chose a strong colour – Rich Razzleberry and added a thin layer of Whisper White for a matting. The wreath was stamped onto card stock and embossed in white, then cut out with the Framelits.
The layers of matting and card base have been cut away and a piece of window sheet inserted in the inner section of the wreath to make it look like the heart is floating.
The Heart was given a touch of glamour with Dazzling Diamonds.
Even though this card started of in thought to be a Christmas Card…it has evolved into a great Wedding, Engagement or even Valentine’s Day Card
Hope you enjoy my version of Louise’s card…

“Baby” – Global Design Project #GDP003

This weeks Challenge Theme from GDP is ……”BABY”

GDP_Theme_Baby

I don’t have anything “BABY”….I don’t do much “BABY”…….my kids are teenagers and young adults.

What can I do!

I have some of the “Sweet Li’l Things” Designer Series Paper…..but not much (was part of a share)

This is a real Challenge for me…no “BABY” Stamps

My brain is reeling….what can I do!

After a bit of tearing, embossing, stitching, adding a button and my only “BABY” stamp ………

Here it is.

I think it turned out OK….what do you think?

Timeless Elegance & Global Design Project #GDP002

So looking forward to this weeks challenge from Global Design Project. Really enjoying the challengers that GDP are giving us….why don’t you join us too!

GDP002 Here is my take on this weeks Challenge.

WP_001086

Timeless Elegance Designer Series Paper (DSP) – . The colours used in the papers are Black, Very Vanilla and Sahara Sand.

I have softly coloured the Roses in Bushing Bride and Pear Pizzazz to add that soft touch of colour. The edges of background DSP sponged in Pear Pizzazz just enough to highlight the leaves. then mounted onto Blushing Bride matting.

The Lace and the Pearl Accent adds to the soft elegant feeling of the card.

Best Thoughts and Boken Technique

As you would most likely know by now this is my favorite stamp set “Best Thoughts”, its a Hostess set at the back of 2015 – 2016 Catalogue. Earn this set when you have a workshop and earn over $250 in Sales.

This morning while looking at Facebook I found an entry by Teneale about a new site called “Global Design Project” or #GDP .They offer challengers and this is there very first challenge, so if you wish to have a go, go HERE …..enjoy!

GDP001_Colour_Challenge

So I had a look and really liked the challenge they put out there to Stampers/ card makers….I’m putting together the cards I want to do in a class this Friday night using the “Boken” Technique. I have had an idea in my head but hadn’t got it onto a card as yet. After seeing the challenge by GDP, I had it! Done and Dusted…so here it is.

WP_001078

What is Boken?……By definition, bokeh (boh-kay) is the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur, in out-of-focus areas of an image. Bokeh has been defined as “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light”.
There are many ways this technique can be done and there are some great articles on the internet…but here I have sponged  colour onto Whisper White card stock using a template, them stamped over the top.

If you want to know more then book into my class on Friday 11th September……by going HERE
