This was such a fun card to make, using the New Horizons Suite from the 2022 Jan- Jun Mini Catalogue by Stampin’ Up! ®. One of these cards will be sent to my father for his birthday later this month. It’s not often I do cards that can be used for men, most of my cards are very feminine.
The New Horizons Designer Series Paper is spectacular, each piece lends to great water colour back ground and with just a couple of added elements make a great card.
On my Facebook Live this week I showed how to create this card. What I really love about these cards is the layout and elements used are exactly the same but by using different Designer Series Paper it changes the feeling completely. One is full of warmth and could be some where late in the afternoon of a summers day. The other is more of a winters day feeling with the misty colours.

What a cute stamp set with a coordinating punch – Hello Ladybug by Stampin’ Up! ®, found in the Jan-Jun 2022 Mini Catalogue.
I always love a bit of ‘Black and White’ and for this card I have used the Black and White Gingham Check from the Pattern Party Designer Series Paper from the Annual Catalogue. This is a Host Reward which you could earn with a $310 Order before postage.
This is a simple card, the hardest part to it is the fussy cutting and it’s a simple leaf to cut…So I know you can handle it!
Tips
Instead of stamping the Lady bugs body I cut from Basic Black using the punch. I wasn’t happy with the ink coverage I was getting.
Stamp the dots on the wings first, then stamp the Red part of the wings. Makes it so much easier to line up.
If using more than one stamp in the sentiment see if you can line up on one block. Sometimes you can’t do this but sometimes so easy when you can.

Do you like the look of water colours and haven’t given it a try…..Over the last few days I have been enjoying playing around with some water colouring and I thought I would share with you on some of the things I have learnt. The image I am using is from the In the Moment Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up!®.
On my Facebook Live I show how I coloured one of the images from this set and how simple it can be. Below you will find the video and some tips, I hope you will find helpful.
Measurements Used…
Card Base Misty Moonlight: 10.5 x 29.9cm, scored at 14.9cm
Card Mat Pattern Party Designer Series Paper: 10 x 14.4cm
Front Strip Melon Mambo: 5 x 10cm
Water colour Panel Shimmery White: 10.5 x 14.9cm
Card Insert Shimmery White: 10.5 x 14.9cm
Tips
Use the right product for the project – Water colouring you need a paper that will with stand the water. Stampin’ Up! have two cardstocks for this Shimmery White and Fluid 100 water Colour Paper. It is also important to use the correct ink to stamp your image and that is Stazon Ink.
I have used lots of colours, you don’t need to. Start by using only 2 or 3 colours. By starting with a light colour you can build up the depth of colour by adding layers. Just let each layer dry dry a little before adding more.
I like to work on the side of my brush and use the tip for detail. When doing calligraphy you learn to push down on the nib to give broader strokes and lift to get finer strokes. It’s the same here..I work on the side of my brush and gently pushing down will give me that broader brush stroke, remember to keep it very gentle.
There are 3 brushes in the Water Painters…I like to use the finer one…work out which one works best for the job your doing.
Leave some white space, you don’t need to cover the complete image. If my brush has missed a spot then I leave it, white space is good.
Have a piece of paper towel handy – to clean your brush but to also blot out areas where you may have to much water or to remove colour
Here’s an Important Tip…..
LET IT DRY BEFORE MOVING ON …Allow your work to dry before adding another layer of colour…this has been my biggest hurdle as I like to get things done quickly. Slow down and allow your work to dry. Use a heat gun but be aware that it can warp your cardstock.
Try not to work on two areas next to each other. Ink will flow where there is water, so two wet areas next to each other colour from one will flow into the other. Example jeans and dog – if both areas are wet the blue can bleed into the brown of the dog.
Don’t worry if your work goes out side the lines a little. Water colour is about the flow of the colour and the softness
PRACTICE….practice. Play with it, have fun with it…You will find your own flow.

On my FB Live I created a card using the Artfully Composed Suite and the Swipe Technique. I also showed an example of this technique using Designer Series Paper.
Artfully Composed Suite consists of- Artfully Composed Bundle with its Artfully Layered Bundle ( Artfully Layered Stamp set & Tropical Layers Dies) Stamp set, White Frayed Ribbon, Faux Sea Glass Shapes, vellum Layering Designs and Artfully Composed designer series Paper.
The cards I made uses the ‘Swiping Technique’, where you swipe the ink pad across your cardstock. The angel & pressure you hold the ink pad results in different textures. This is also a great way to add extra texture to a piece of DSP also.
Measurements Used…
Card Base Calypso Coral: 10.5 x 29.9cm, scored at 14.9cm
Mat Mint Macron: 10 x 14.4cm
Card front Basic White or Artfully Composed Designer Series Paper: 10.5 x 14.9cm, cut down after stamping 9.7 x 14.1cm
Card Insert Basic White: 10 x 14.4cm
Basic White scrap & Calypso Coral scrap for stamping & sentiment
Gold & Rose Gold Metallic Specialty Paper
Pale Papaya Ribbon approx 25cm
Here I have both the finished card fronts. The one one left I started with a Basic White Cardstock and swiped with the ink pads and stamped. The other piece on the right is a piece of Designer Series Paper that had mostly a white back ground and was swiped with the ink pads.
Colours Used for Swiping Technique:
Pale Papaya, Calypso Coral, Mint Macron, Pear Pizzazz
Colours in Stamping:
Old Olive, Evening Evergreen

This week on my Facebook Live I wanted to show you some of the products I have received in my pre-order from the Jan-Jun 2022 Mini Catalogue. Also I had a play with the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks. This was the first time I had a go at using them so we learnt about them together.
Tips on using the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks
Have your shammy or wipes handy to clean the masks after using – because the masks are a dark colour the ink sitting on them is not really visible. It’s very easy to turn over and get ink on your work. So clean straight away.
Mask off areas your not using on both the mask and cardstock…even for the small leaves
With a permanent pen (Sharpie) mark 1 & 2 on the flower mask so you remember which one to use first.
Always start with your light colour first.
Watch what colours your putting together because the colours layer on top of each other and you may end up with a new colour ‘Mud’
Leaf Mask – use your blending brush up and down not in a circular motion.

This month our theme is Gift Packaging.
There is a story behind my project today and I would love to share that with you.
As a child in the 1970’s in the small country town where we lived we still had the Baker, Fruit and Veg Man and Milk Man that would deliver to us each week. Come Christmas my mother would go and buy a bottle of Beer for each one as a thank you for the service they provided. She would wrap the bottle in red crepe paper and a strip of back cardboard around the middle and the a Santa head cut from Christmas wrapping…It wasn’t always easy to find the wrapping with the right size head to fit the bottle, so it was very special when it was found and kept for the following year.
A few times I have done this also, so this year it was time to repeat this tradition. So here is my take on the Special Christmas Gift that my mother made.
Here I have used Red Velvet Paper & Real Red Cardstock to make a box to hold the bottle of wine. He has his belt and shinny buckle made from Basic Black cardstock and Gold Metallic Specialty Paper.
Below I have added a video showing how I created this box to fit the bottle. By taking a few simple measurements you can customise this box to fit any size bottle. CLICK the image below to view the video
