Gum Leaves and Gumnuts

I am always looking for new ways to use products to give me different effects.

The other day one of my Stampin’ Up! colleges posted an article about using Painters tape as a mask, but it was a special type of tape.

It was called “Frog Tape”,anyway I did some research as this tape can only be bought through Masters and I don’t have one near me.

I found that 3M put out a “Blue Painter Tape Edge Lock”, it comes in different widths and different tackiness.

So I purchased the Advanced Multi-Surface Tape as it comes in wider width. Not cheep $15 – $20 per roll
I wanted a solid shape that would fit inside the tape width so used the Feathers Edgelits (discontinued).

I decided to used Glossy paper (also discontinued) to make my mask on and put through the Big Shot. The Big Shot pressed the two together a bit firmer than I would have liked but nothing I could do about that. I hoped that because I used the gloss paper it would pull apart OK, it did stick and tear paper a little but with gentle perspiration I got them apart.

Once I had the mask made I attached to some Shimmery White, this card stock is great with water colouring.

So using the Aqua Painter and inks..this is what I came up with. It bled a little and didn’t give me the clean lines I was hoping for.

But that may have been I was too eager to take mask of.
Very pleased with out come.

The center leaf was painted on another piece of card stock and then cut out with the Edgelits. I made the Gumnut using the Acorn Punch from the Seasonal Catalog and

is still available in the New Occasional Catalog.

Global Design Project #GDP018…..Is in the Air……

Time again for a Global Design Project….

and this week it’s another fantastic sketch made by Teneale Williams!

GDP018When I first started out in stampin’ Up! I played around with colour on the “Clear Blocks” and using that as a stamp.

It gives you a “Water colour Background”,I love the different effects you can get.

So I decided for this layout that’s what I would do.

To get this effect you do have to work quickly so have every thing ready…

IMAG0375_1

  • Card stock, in this case Shimmery White, it will give that little bit of extra sparkle and will handle the water used.
  • Spritzer bottle filled with water
  • Stampin’ Write Markers, Blushing Bride, Calypso Coral and Watermellon Wonder..(don’t you love the colour names…I do)

Using the Stampin’ Write markers I coloured in the block starting with the lighter colour at the top

and working down to a darker colour at the bottom.

Then a light spray with the Spritzer onto the block and stamp down onto card stock. I held it there for approx 2 minutes, just to let the colour spread.

Carefully lift the block, you may have a pooling of ink just blot any excess ink with paper towel or tissue.

When dry stamp your image on top…here I embossed the floral heart from “Bloomin’ Love” and embossed with white embossing powder.

Triple mounted…added some pearls and a sentiment just under frames.

Give it ago…would love to hear how you went with this great technique.

Choose Happiness and Global Design Project #GDP009

This week is a colour challenge!

GDP009 ChallengeEvery time I see these colours I tend to go toward the same stamp set…….but this time I’m going to try something a little different.

Recently I have been playing with watercolour paper and I love how the colours move and blend.

The stamp set I used is Choose Happiness, a beautiful set and one I have not used much.

My idea for this card just grew as I worked…made mistakes..no restarts, just kept working and letting it takes its natural course.

The flowers are embossed in clear, masking and stamping until I had 3 flowers.

Then after I gave the water paper a light coating of water I started adding the Watermellon Wonder to the flowers using the Stampin’ Write Markers and moving the ink around with a wet brush.

Adding more colour as I went to give more depth and allowing the ink to flow beyond the flowers.

Once dry I added the leaves and embossed those as well….adding  water to the area I painted the leaves in Mint Macaron and highlighted them with Tip Top Taupe.

The background started as a wash of Tip Top Taupe around the flowers to give depth and then a wash of Mint Macaron across the page.

but this still looked too clean…so I added the lace boarder, stamping off on scratch paper before stamping on my page.

I went over it with a large wet paintbrush to make it look blended and aged. To add to the effect I sponged the edges with Tip Top Taupe and with Mint Macaron.

This card is full of little mistakes that I worked over the top of and added to until I finished with something I am really pleased with….

I hope you are too.

I’m finding that this is becoming one of my favorite Stampin’ Up! Stamp Sets.
Here I have stamped on water colour paper with black Stazon Ink and water coloured the flower with Ink pads and blender pen. I have used a combination of colours in the flower petals and leaves and to give it a little more depth I have lightly coloured around the flower.
I didn’t want this to be a card so it has been mounted in a frame and finished with lace and linen thread.
This stamp set is a Hostess Set that you can earn when you have a Workshop and sales over $250.00. So book a workshop today and you could also have this beautiful Stamp to play with
