In the Moment

Do you like the look of water colours and haven’t given it a try…..Over the last few days I have been enjoying playing around with some water colouring and I thought I would share with you on some of the things I have learnt. The image I am using is from the In the Moment Stamp Set by Stampin’ Up!®.

On my Facebook Live I show how I coloured one of the images from this set and how simple it can be. Below you will find the video and some tips, I hope you will find helpful.

In the Moment Stamp set by Stampin' Up! Watercoloured

Measurements Used…

  • Card Base Misty Moonlight: 10.5 x 29.9cm, scored at 14.9cm
  • Card Mat Pattern Party Designer Series Paper: 10 x 14.4cm
  • Front Strip Melon Mambo: 5 x 10cm
  • Water colour Panel Shimmery White: 10.5 x 14.9cm
  • Card Insert Shimmery White: 10.5 x 14.9cm
https://youtu.be/1yDAKCTR11E

Tips

  • Use the right product for the project – Water colouring you need a paper that will with stand the water. Stampin’ Up! have two cardstocks for this Shimmery White and Fluid 100 water Colour Paper. It is also important to use the correct ink to stamp your image and that is Stazon Ink.
  • I have used lots of colours, you don’t need to. Start by using only 2 or 3 colours. By starting with a light colour you can build up the depth of colour by adding layers. Just let each layer dry dry a little before adding more.
  • I like to work on the side of my brush and use the tip for detail. When doing calligraphy you learn to push down on the nib to give broader strokes and lift to get finer strokes. It’s the same here..I work on the side of my brush and gently pushing down will give me that broader brush stroke, remember to keep it very gentle.
  • There are 3 brushes in the Water Painters…I like to use the finer one…work out which one works best for the job your doing.
  • Leave some white space, you don’t need to cover the complete image. If my brush has missed a spot then I leave it, white space is good.
  • Have a piece of paper towel handy – to clean your brush but to also blot out areas where you may have to much water or to remove colour

Here’s an Important Tip…..

  • LET IT DRY BEFORE MOVING ON …Allow your work to dry before adding another layer of colour…this has been my biggest hurdle as I like to get things done quickly. Slow down and allow your work to dry. Use a heat gun but be aware that it can warp your cardstock.
  • Try not to work on two areas next to each other. Ink will flow where there is water, so two wet areas next to each other colour from one will flow into the other. Example jeans and dog – if both areas are wet the blue can bleed into the brown of the dog.
  • Don’t worry if your work goes out side the lines a little. Water colour is about the flow of the colour and the softness
  • PRACTICE….practice. Play with it, have fun with it…You will find your own flow.

Facebook Live Friday – Harvest Meadow

Hi and welcome today to my Blog.

This week I did a bit of water colouring using the Harvest Meadow from the July- December Mini Catalogue. I love doing water colouring as I find it very relaxing.

I used a lot of colours in flowers & Stems to achieve depth in colour and texture.

I am sorry that in my video where I was putting the card together the camera was slipping in the holder so some of it is off screen but I think you can still get the idea of what I was doing…that’s a live for you anything can happen.

Below I have added measurements used to make the card, so you can follow the video and create this card also. I hope you will enjoy this as much as I did…let me know how you go.

Hi and welcome today to my Blog.

My card today I have used the Butterfly Brilliance Bundle by Stampin’ Up! ® to create my card. Each of the butterflies carefully coloured using Stampin’ Up! Classic Stampin’ ink Refill with Gold splater highlighting the central butterfly.

Card Measurements

  • Card Base Basic White – 10.5 x 29.9cm, score at 14.9cm
  • Card Mat Basic Black – 10 x 14.4cm
  • Card Front Basic White – 9.7 x 14.1cm
  • Card Insert Basic White – 10 x 14.4cm

Instructions –

  • Cut all required cardstock, score and fold card base
  • Run Basic White card front through Stampin’ Cut & Emboss machine using the Painted Texture 3D Embossing Folder.
  • Adhere the Basic White card front to the Basic Black card mat using Multi-purpose Glue or Stampin’ Seal.
  • Adhere matted card front to the Basic White card base using Multi-purpose Glue or Stampin’ Seal.
  • Stamp the Butterfly images onto Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper using Stazon Black ink Pad. Stazon is a Acid Free, permanent ink for stamping images to watercolour. Stazon can also be used for non-porus surfaces like Window sheets. To make the stamping of the butterflies easy and to make sure to get a clear image I used the Stamparatus, reinking and stamping a couple of times. I added the silicon sheet under the watercolour paper to get a little extra height and help get a good ink coverage.
  • Once the Stazon ink has dried you can start water colouring using the Water Painter and reinkers.
  • Water colour the butterflies
    • Work on one butterfly at a time
    • give the butterfly a light wash of water over the top before adding colour.
    • Add light layers of colour building up to the colour you want.
    • Start with the lightest colour and add darker colour as highlights.
    • Let each colour dry slightly before adding more or another colour
    • Let butterflies dry completely.
  • On a plate mix a small amount of multi-purpose glue and water to get a slightly runny consistency. Using a old paint brush lightly splatter the watered down glue onto the large butterfly. Let the glue dry until tacky. Add Gilded Leaf to the tacky glue and rub away the excess with a soft brush.
  • Die cut the butterflies using the coordinating die from the bundle.
  • Add dimensionals to the back of the butterflies down the length of body and attach to the card front
  • Add insert to the inside of the card.

Monthly Team Blog Hop September 2020 – All Things Fabulous

We are a group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators from around the world taking part in a training program helping us to build a successful Stampin’ Up!® Business and reach some of our goals. All Things Fabulous

My card today features Stampin’ Up!  All Things Fabulous Bundle 154112…..I love how this card turned out…What do you think?

I love the stark contrast between the Basic Black  and the other colours, the black just makes everything ‘POP’.

All Things Fabulous is a ‘Two Step’ stamp, I have used this Bundle previously to see the post Click …HERE.

For this card I stamped the images onto the Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper 149612 and only used Magenta Madness Stampin’ Pad 153117  for the flower and Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Pad 147095 for the leaves. By using the watercolour paper I was able to give the flower and leaves a watercolour look using the Water Painter 151298.

How did I do this….

The flowers have 3 parts, I used – 1A- the larger petals, 1B – medium size inner highlights and 1C – the smaller inner highlights.

  • Ink up 1A with Magenta Madness – stamp off twice onto a piece of scrap paper, giving you the lightest shade. Then stamp onto the watercolour paper.
  • Ink up 1B with Magenta Madness –  stamp off once and the line up over the previously stamped image and stamp.
  • Ink up 1C with Magenta Madness – NO STAMPING OFF..line up image again and stamp.

This will give you a flower all in the same colour but with different shades.

  • Then using a fine tipped Water Painter, filed with water. Go over the flower image allowing the colours to blend and bleed a little around the edges for that water colour look. I ever so slightly took the colour out a little around the edges as I didn’t want a white boarder around the images.
  • The leaves are just one stamp and I just stamped then went over with the Water Brush as above.

Have you tried the NEW Stampin’ Up! ® Cut and Emboss Machine149653……

  • WOW, it’s amazing. The lace die cut just cut out so smoothly and the finish on it is stunning. This machine is so worth the investment of $209..Before cutting the Whisper White Cardstock I added a Adhesive Sheet 152334, this makes adding it to your card so simple.
  • The Basic Black mat I used the Subtles 3D Embossing Folder 151775 to give the card front some texture rather than a flat black surface.
  • Sentiment was stamped using Momento Tuxedo Black onto Whisper White Cardstock.

August International Blog Highlights – Thank You

Good morning and welcome to my Blog.

My card today use’s the Stampin’ Up! ® Love of Leaves Bundle from the Handmade for you Mini Catalogue, which has just gone live today. I still have a few catalogues available and if you live in Australia and you don’t have a Demonstrator, let me know and I can get one out to you in the mail.

Love Of Leaves

The Love of Leaves Bundle 155195 is comprised of the Love of Leaves Photopolymer stamp set and Stitched Leaves Dies. You can purchase the individually or as a Bundle, as a Bundle you get a 10% discount.

The stamp set is a Distinktive Stamp, this means that the stamped image has texture to it giving you light and dark shades of colour using only one ink pad. There are five leaf images and six sentiments to use.

The leaf dies comes in two parts, there is a stitched outline die so that you can die cut the stamped leaf images. You either use the positive or negative portions of the die cut. The second part of each leaf die is a insert that fits inside the outline die and it leaves a stitched vine line on your leaves.

For my card I used three of the smaller leaf dies to cut out multiple leaves from Fluid 100 Watercolour Paper 149612 paper which I coloured using Stampin’ Up! ® Classic Stampin’ Ink Refill. The colours used were Mango Melody 147162  , Daffodil Delight 119672 and Old Olive 100531.

Table built using Product Table Builder by The Crafty Owl – Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator.

    Sailing Home…

I have had so much fun with the ‘Come Sail Away’ Suite by Stampin’ Up! These cards I played with water colour back grounds. I made about 6 water colour pieces trying to get two that I liked.

Both of these backgrounds were done with lots of water and re-inkers.

The card above I used Pacific Point and Coastal Cabana Re-inkers.

The colours used on this card were Night of Navy, Pacific Point, Coastal Cabana with Rock Salt sprinkled over the top. The salt adsorbs the ink and this has left the pink spots.

How did I do the water colour…

    • I do most of my colouring were there is a lot of water used in a foil baking tray lined with paper towel.
    • Cut water colour paper to the size required 9.7cm x 13.7cm
    • spray water all over water colour paper.
    • Add a few drops of lightest re-inker first and the only a couple of the darker re-inker.
    • Spray again with water and move the ink around by turning water colour paper around.
    • I found I had to move quickly because as soon as I added the ink to paper it wanted to adsorb and that left the darker spots.
    • Allow to dry.

I used Blends to colour the lighthouse, anchor, and compass. In colours Pool Party Combo, Bermuda Bay Combo, Daffodil Delight Light, Smoky Slate Light and Sahara Sans Combo.
