Q.Can you use the Big Shot?
A. No, the Stampin’ Up! Cut & Emboss Machine is slightly wider and the Hot Foil Machine is made for the Cut & Emboss.
Q. What is hot foiling?
A. Hot foiling is a technique that uses heat and pressure to transfer metallic or coloured foil onto paper, cardstock, and more. The result is a shiny, professional-looking finish, similar to what you see on luxury stationery or packaging. You can experiment foiling on different materials to see what shines.
Q. What tools do I need for hot foiling?
A. Youโll need:
- Stampinโ Hot Foil System
- Specially-made hot foil dies (IMPORTANT NOTE: Cutting dies are not designed to be used with hot foiling. You cannot die cut using foiling dies. Doing so risks damaging the dies and the system.)
- Stampinโ Hot Foil Rolls
- Stampinโ Cut & Emboss Machine
Q. What kind of foil should I use?
A. Use Stampinโ Hot Foil Rolls, which are specifically made for the Stampinโ Hot Foil System.
Q. What materials can be hot foiled?
A. Hot foiling works best on:
- Two-Tone Cardstock
- Smooth cardstock (Our Basic White Cardstock works great!)
- Stampinโ Up! vellum
- Designer Series Paper
- Window Sheets
- Pearlized Specialty Paper
Always test small samples first. Porous or textured papers can yield inconsistent results.
