A Little Piece of My History – Scrapbooking Precious Memories

Hi there, and welcome! Whether you’re here for inspiration, ideas, or just a creative escape, I’m so happy you’ve stopped by.

This morning on my Live – Let’s Scrap, we created this layout using Stampin’ Up!® 2026–2028 In Color Crisp Cantaloupe Designer Series Paper from two collections: Bloom Boutique and Gingham Gallery.

The die-cut frame and other die cuts came from the now-discontinued Storybook Friends Dies and Storybook Moments Designer Series Paper. It’s always fun finding ways to use products from my stash in new projects!

A Little Piece of My History

The photo on this layout is of me when I was about a week old! My mother had trimmed the original photograph, and I recently rediscovered it in my Baby Book.

The photo was quite small, but I wanted to reprint it at a larger size for my scrapbook page. To give myself the best chance of getting a good-quality image, I scanned the original at 360 DPI.

A Quick Tip for Printing Old Photos

If you’re looking to enlarge old family photographs for your scrapbooking projects, here are a couple of things worth knowing.

Pixels are the tiny coloured squares that make up a digital image. The more pixels an image contains, the more detail it can potentially retain when printed.

DPI (dots per inch) refers to the density of printed dots on paper. When scanning an old photograph, a higher scanning resolution can help capture more detail, which is particularly useful when you want to enlarge a small original.

For a standard 4″ × 6″ photo printed at 300 pixels per inch, a digital image of approximately 1200 × 1800 pixels is a useful target.

Of course, the final quality also depends on the condition of the original photograph, the scanner and how much detail it can capture.

I love that I can take a tiny photograph tucked away in my Baby Book and give it a new life on a scrapbook page. Scrapbooking isn’t just about pretty papers and embellishments; it’s also about preserving those precious memories and the stories behind them.

Do you have old family photographs tucked away in albums or boxes? Why not scan a few and start adding them to your scrapbook pages?
