I am doing my album to be a pictorial Journal of all the events that happen throughout December for family and I.

Today I started sorting my cards and planning where I’m going to place them…but I know this will change as I work my way through December.

As we go through this month I will give you up dates on how its coming along and will post a few pictures. I will also add tips along the way of how and why I have done curtain pages.

My first tip is..

Tip 1.

The Hello December 2016 card Collection and the Accessory Pack are part of the Year End Closeout Sale…and its while stock lasts. So don’t leave it too long to order yours. Go to my SHOP here or from the top of page and order directly with Stampin’ Up! You don’t want to miss out.

Tip 2.

Once you have your cards and if you are Memory Keeping by date add your dates (from Accessory Pack) to the 7.6 x 10.2 cm cards that have been printed for this purpose

Have added a video to show yow you this great collection.

Old Memories……

Yesterday, my son Robert  was having a chat to his Dad about one of his subjects, Modern History. I reminded them that we have an old suitcase in the shed with lots of bits and pieces from Europe, brought over by my Father in-law.

My husbands family came from Croatia and moved to Australia after the War.

So we went in search for this suitcase…..

We found an old suitcase (thinking it was the one we were after), we cleaned it up and brought it inside.

imag1652

It was so funny because here was my 17 yr old son looking at this case and wondering how to open it.

“Are there keys?”

He had never seen a suitcase before with locks like this.

So I showed him how it opened and had a good laugh…how times have changed.

Unfortunately it wasn’t my father in-laws case but it was my mother in-laws.

We found her sewing box, old costume jewellery, photos and some Bibles (written in German and Croatian). We also found my husbands school records which he had thought were thrown out years ago.

imag1653

But the treasure we did find was my mother in-laws cook book, with all her hand written recipes.

What a find….but they are all written in Croatian. Now I just have to get translated.

imag1649

Last year my husband wanted to have a Croatian Christmas with traditional food and we didn’t know where this cook book was. So I down loaded recipes from the internet and we gave them a go.

It was a fun Christmas Lunch  and it was great trying different food to what we would normally have. I made sure that we took photo’s of me making these recipes and of them on our table for Christmas lunch. And put these photos into my 2016 Christmas Project Life Album…they are a great reminder.

christmas2015

So this year if I can get these recipes translated in time…I maybe able to make some of these goodies for Christmas lunch this year too…

So whats the reason behind all this..

Memories are great, get them out of those old suitcases and share them. take photos and remember the stories.

A great way to do this is through Memory Keeping and Project Life.

Project Life gives you a simple way to get photos into albums so you can tell the stories and share with family and friends.

Go to my shop and check out the Seasonal catalogue for this years Hallo December Project Life Card Collection,  Accessory pack, 6 x 8 Emerald Envy ASlbum and Pocket pages.

This is only available until 3rd January 2017

To find out more about project life contact me and attend one of my classes where I can help you to get started.

What did I get up to last weekend!

What did I get up to last weekend……….

Last weekend I was invited to join a great group of women to share a weekend of

“SCRAPBOOKING”

Haven’t done what is now called by lots of scrappers as “Traditional Scrapbooking” for a long time.

We went to a lovely little place in the Blue Mountains called Kurajong, where we stayed at a place called

Merroo Christian Centre.

241

Click on the photo to see there great web site and hear the amazing Bell Birds.

As a child driving with my parents through this area I remember stopping and/or being told to wind down the windows to listen for the Bell Birds.

Waking up to them each morning was beautiful and brought back great memories.

merroo

So……what did I do while there.

Now, this was not a Stampin’ Up! event…..but I tried to stay using Stampin’ Up! products.

We were given some different challenges and the first one I did was this one.

14484973_10153945749963097_1617564980147513843_n

and here is my take on this layout..

2016-10-28-19-37-07

This photo was taken on my sisters farm in Lue, near Mudgee.

Here it is along with the Project Life page to go with it, I made my own cards to match.

2016-10-28-21-10-14

In the next Challenge page we were given a bag of goodies and had to use 2 items on our page…

everything thing in my bag was girly and I have “BOYS”

…the lovely Sheena suggested I turn the button over and use the other side.

The “button and word Cherish” came from my bag, the papers are discontinued Stampin’ Up!

Christmas paper and the floral print comes from the current “All Year Long” Project Life cards

2016-10-31-08-29-23

This is a few pages that I completed.

Scrapbooking doesn’t have to be just “Traditional” or just “Project Life”.

Sometimes there are those special moments/photo’s that need to be highlighted and Traditional Scrapping works well.

Have fun with what you are doing.

(By the way I completed over 23 pages…whooo Hooo!, 2009 album almost completed)

Project Life Challenge!

This is so exciting as at the moment I’m so into doing Project Life.

If you have been reading my previous post you would have know that I have been working on my Project Life Album

and that I have completed 2008 and now I’m working on 2009.

I have always taught it is better to work on the recent photos as they are still fresh in your mind.

But I’m finding Project life is great because it is so quick…slip a few photos into pockets

add some filler cards with journaling and its done. So instead of spending hours or days on

one page..I’m completing 4-6 pages a day.

This has made working on past photos really easy.

But…..with this challenge I decided to do something recent, photos from Mothers Day…last weekend.

For Mother’s Day my boys decided to take me to Sydney Drag Way at Eastern Creek.

Some may say “ODD” for Mother’s Day…..but I really enjoy the Drag Races.

I love the smell, the noise and excitement.

Mother’s Day was Ladies Day – Free Entry and I received a beautiful “Rose” .

Unfortunately it wasn’t a great day…a bit wet. Unless the track is dry the cars can’t run.

There was also a lot of smoke haze around from the back burning.

It did stop raining and the track did dry out.

And I loved it……and the boys wanted to go home before me.

These photo’s I took were of moving cars going 180 – 200 k over a mile length course.

So here is my entry for Global Design Project #35

IMAG0896

I have a mix of pocket page layout and a single page layout.

As the photos don’t have a huge amount of colour I added the colour through the back ground papers.

I wanted a “Grunge” look with a bit of colour….well, lots of colour.

I made and stamped my own cards for the pockets to tie it all together.

Hope you enjoy my pages as much as I enjoyed reliving a great day.

Just Add Ink #310….Sketch!

I really like the sketch that Just Add Ink have given us this week to use…..and

it has given me a chance to do something that I have been plaining for sometime.

Instead of doing a card I thought I would do a Page Layout for my Project Life Album using this

sketch as a part of the layout.

JAISketch_2020

This is one of my favorite photos of me with my son Hayden,

it was taken last year in February when he joined the Navy.

Hayden doesn’t give kisses very often, so this is one of those special moments caught of film.

IMAG0886

The Project Life pages that I did on this event I have done with a Navy theme and

I wanted something that would go with it but aIso wanted something a little softer.

I had used “Night of Navy” in my original pages and the “Night of Navy” colour way of this paper kept

the theme consistent.

IMAG0889

I used the colours from the background paper to make the flowers from the “Botanical Builder Framelit Dies”

Making the Sketch the “Title Element” of my page.

The circle and the flower petals were sponged to soften the look as well as to add dimension.

Where have I been?

Where have I been?

Sorry I haven’t forgotten you….

I have been traveling through time.

HOW?

If you have seen my previous post you would have seen that my eldest son

has turned 21 and because of his party I was going through some old photos

and found some that I had always meant to scrap or get them into albums.

Well that was almost over a month ago and since then I have been getting lost in time.

I have done nothing except go through photos, sort photos, talk about them with family members and have now competed

2008 (unless I find more photo’s…LOL- there’s always more, as back then I photographed everything)

Here are some of my completed pages

IMAG0846

This is just a very few of the pages completed, in all I think I did 26 page or 52 pages back and front.

There is no way I could have done that years ago when I did scrapbooking…sometimes it would take me a week to do one page.

I still love that form of Memory Keeping (Traditional Scrapbooking) but I would only pick out 2-3 photos of one event.

At a later date I will go back and highlight a photo, as Stampin’ Up! also sell 12 x 12 pages.

Here I have used 4 – 10 photos on one event.

The hardest thing for me was trying to remember what was happening in all the photo’s and when they were taken.

At least I had documented them into folders and put onto disc’s, which helped sort them.

I store my photo’s in folders on a hard drive and which are in folders by YEARS, then by DATE and EVENT.

I run a Project Life Class on the last Friday of each month…

contact me to find out more.

What do you do with Designer Series Paper or Scrapbooking Card stock that’s left over?

For those of us that are Demonstrators with Stampin’ Up! & DSP has retired but still have some left over

or

you have a collection of printed Cardstock & you are not sure how you are going to use it all.

or

you now do Project Life and don’t need all that 12 x 12 card stock.

I have a few ideas…

  1. Sell it on Ebay or sale/swap sites (following the SU Manual)
  2. Give it away to schools or preschools
  3. Give as a gift to young girls (or boys) that love to do crafts
  4. Cut it into 10 x 15cm ( 4 x 6″) pieces to use as Project Life Cards

I have done all of these over the years except for No.4..Project Life Cards, until today.

Over this weekend I have started catching up on getting my photo’s sorted.

Usually I would recommend with starting with the most recent photos as these you can remember the details.

But I’m not taking my own advise here….I have started at 2008.

One of my previous post explains this a little…..

while sorting photo’s for my sons 21st I came across photos that showed a milestone event that happened in out lives.

I ways meant to put them in an album but like most of us I hadn’t got around to it.

Now I’m working on catching up these lost years…which makes for lots of pages to do.

So to get back to the excess card stock……

I have started my Project Life album from 2008..

so I will need lots of Cards to fill a few gaps.

So I have cut up some of my Card stock (DSP) into 10 x 15cm (4 x 6 “) pieces.

PLs_01

They are there ready to go when I need them…

I have also spent a little bit of time organising my Project Life trolly,

I have taken the lid and placed it behind the base and put a rubber band around them to keep them together.

This allows for extra storage for the Accessories packs you can purchase to go with your cards and keeps them together in families.

PLs4_01

In some of box lids where I don’t have the  accesories left I have placed the DSP I have cut.

Its all ready to go..whether I’m working at the dinning room table or in my office…

Happy Project Life-ing!

Project Life and catching Up!

Last weekend we celebrated my eldest son’s 21st……Aaron 21 collage

It was a great night and thanks to a great lot of friends and family, it will be very memorable.

We framed some photo’s taken of Aaron through out the years and hung them on the back fence.

But in finding these photos I went through

many photo albums that I had temporarily put the photo’s with the plain of scrapbooking them.

That never happened, like most of us I’d say.

When going through the albums I came across photo’s I had taken in 2008. We had moved into a caravan while renovating our house.

This had taken place about a week before Aaron’s 13th Birthday.

So its about time I did something about it……so I’ve made a start and here are the first 2 pages…

PL_01

One Word of advise….get your photos done now don’t wait until the memories are fading…..

My Life through out December

Where are your Christmas photos?
Last year I started a Project Life Christmas Album about all the things I did in December leading up to Christmas…..

In all I probably only did 20 pages (one day a page)…this year I have been very busy and by tomorrow will have done nearly every day for December…WOW!
Here are some of the pages completed.

Project Life 1

Why should I Journal?

My workroom is a real mess and while tidying it up I came across some folders filled with pages from magazines that I had pulled out about Scrpabooking.
I have collected these over the years and haven’t even looked at them for almost 10 years. Some of them even dated back to 2001!!! Quickly going through them and discarding most to the recycle bin I came across a couple of pages that were really interesting.
The pages I found were on JOURNALING. Since I have been Demonstrating Project Life, I thought they might be useful. Here’s what I found.

typewitter 2
What is journaling???
“In Scrapbooking Terms Journaling is writing down who, what, where, when and why that goes with your photos. An important part of scrapbooking that is often never done for fear of ruining a page with bad handwriting or a mistake or putting it off for later which never comes. Journaling in your scrapbook should always be done using permanent, fade and water proof writing tools. Using the computer to journal makes it easier for some to keep up with this important task.”
(taken from http://scrapbook.lifetips.com//cat/10249/glossary-of-scrapbook-terms/index.html)

typewitter 2

Why should I journal?
If you were given an album with only photo’s and the person who put it together wasn’t there. How would you know what it was about. The photos are lovely but where were they taken and when. Who is in them?
This is what makes journaling important it tells your story without you being there. It brings the photos alive, it makes them into a moving story.
typewritter
Who, what, where, when and why?
When Journaling you want to write about WHO is in your photos, WHAT they are all about, WHERE they were taken and WHY it was happening. Imagine you are telling someone about your photos face to face and this is the same information you can write about.
typewritter
Types of Journaling
• Bullet Point – Point form e.g. Feeding giraffes at the Zoo.
• Story Telling – this can be long or short. Full of facts using facts and Adverbs. Going more into depth of the story.
Pros and cons of each type of journaling.
Bullet point:
Pros
• It’s great for Project Life where you don’t have much room.
• It makes a small amount of information look bigger to fill up space.
• Easier to read.
Cons
• Not a lot of information
• Can leave a lot of questions unanswered
Story telling:
Pros
• Telling the complete story, it can bring people in and make them feel like they are part of it.
Cons
• A lot more time and thought needs to go into it. You may need to write and re-write until you are happy
typewritter

Journaling tips
• When Journaling use a good pen, you want one that won’t fade over time.
• It’s great to use your own hand writing as in the future your family may cherish the fact that you hand wrote in the albums.
• Draw lines on your page so then you don’t end up writing up hill. Use a soft pencil that can be easily rubbed out or use cardstock that already has lines e.g Stampin’ Up! Grid cards for Project Life
• Do your Journaling on the computer if you are worried about making a mistake or bad hand writing.

typewritter
Keep your Journaling simple, don’t be afraid to tell your story
Journaling doesn’t have to be difficult or complicated. It’s now your time to choose how you want to journal, why you want to journal and what you want to journal.
