How do you relax?

What do you find relaxing?

There are many crafts or activities we do to relax. For some of us its working in the gardening, or doing some embroidery, or even reading a book on the beach.

One article I have read says ….

We don’t just relax because it’s fun; there is actually a really strong connection between relaxation and both our mental and physical health. … Check out some of the potential causes of stress and why relaxation is important in managing them. http://au.reachout.com/why-is-it-important-to-relax

There are many people that find colouring in relaxing, spending a few hours getting away from our everyday lives to go into our own world of colour.

The Huffington Post says….

“Coloring is an activity that we tend to associate with children. As we grow older, we put aside our crayons and colored pencils in favor of more respectable writing utensils like pens and highlighters. However, it turns out coloring can be beneficial for adults — namely for its de-stressing power. The practice generates wellness, quietness and also stimulates brain areas related to motor skills, the senses and creativity.”

So where am I heading with all of this…

Well this week has been a little bit stressful for me, with having an extra person in the house and trying to keep up with all the other activities I do. So today when I got home from Bible Study today ,the house was very quite. As my son had already left to return to Canberra.

So I decided to pull out the “In Side the Lines Designer Series Paper” from the Sale-A-Bration Catalogue and the Watercolour Pencils from the Occasions Catalogue.

IMAG2307a This is the pattern Paper I decided to use..I hadn’t had a chance to use it as yet. There are 4 designs to choose from and this is just a quarter of a sheet.

So I spent a quite afternoon relaxing and colouring in…..its amazing how good you feel afterwards.

So then I made it into a card using sentiments from Flourishing Phases and Sealed with Love stamp sets.

I kept with the bright colour theme by using Basic Black (great for making colours “POP”. Mellon Mambo and Bermuda Bay. On the inside adding a small strip of the coloured paper to a Whisper White insert.

Did you know that if you spend $90 then you could also get the wonderful Designer Series Paper “FREE” and start distressing!

Global Design Project 075 | Theme Challenge

Welcome!

What a week…

Gee its gone fast.

I don’t know about you but time is flying, this morning when I woke up I was thinking its what day Tuesday….

Nooooooooo!

Its Wednesday already and I have so much to do today!

And there’s so much I’m behind on.

Last week I’m sorry but I completely forgot Global Designer Challenge…..it closes on Monday (I think) and they announce the winner/s Monday night.

And I thought better go and have a look and then thought what did I do for it, I can’t remember. The reason I couldn’t remember was because I’d forgotten – BLONDE MOMENT!

I even had it all worked out in my head…..

So I’m not forgetting this week!

The Theme is week is ……….

GDP075

Now the way this card came to being……

Stampin’ Up! puts out each year some beautiful rangers of Designer Series Paper (DSP) and like most, I buy it….it beautiful so this is what you do..you buy it!

Then what do you do with it…well it sits on the shelf looking pretty….and looking pretty..on the shelf!

YEP!…I’m the same as you, its there on the self looking pretty!

Well a lovely friend Kylie Bertucci is really encouraging ALL of us to #loveitchopit

Get it of the shelf and use it, chop it up, put it on cards and let others enjoy it too!

I purchased the “Sending Love DSP Stack”, great little 15 x 15 cm (6 x 6″) packs of lovely papers great for Valentines Day.

142733

Well Valentines been and Gone…

So what do we do with the left over papers…use it of course!

One of the lovely papers is a spot.

I used Basic Black for the card and Whisper White as the under layer with the Real Read and White Spot as the base of my card.

the thought here was to keep the card simple…and I needed to add a

 WINGED CREATURE….that’s the brief….

a Butterfly, a white butterfly……NOOOOoo!

I ended up with a scrap of Whisper White and some daubers and ink pads….Crushed Curry, Pacific point and Real Red.

I sponged the cardstock with the Crushed Curry and Pacific Point…mix these together and you get ….”GREEN”…don’t you!

IMAG2298

At this point using the Butterfly Thinlits and the Big Shot I cut out the butterfly, but its a bit too green.

So I kept going…this wouldn’t be a Michele card unless it MORFS some how.

The two colours were not right with the Real Red and white spot DSP…So added some real Red to the wings.

A little Vellum under to lift from the back ground….still needs something.

(The vellum is adhered under the butterfly in a few concealed spots)

Add some leaves from the Botanical Builder Framelits a bit of silver thread and don’t forget some BLING!

And here is this weeks Creation….Hope its worth the wait..

Watercolour Flowers – Colour INKspiration Challenge #CI03

Welcome to my Blog

Thanks for joining me again today, hope you will enjoy my card.

The card I have for you today is a card I have entered into the 3rd Colour INKspiration Challenge #CI03 and this fortnight it is a beach theme.

16508773_10207375924871262_6247849161172652504_nThese colours are so beautiful together,…..can’t you hear the waves crashing on the beach.

For this Card I used a watercolour technique called “Smooching”.

Earlier in the week I did another card with a very simlar technique where I put colour onto an Acrylic block sprayed with water and then placed water colourpaper over the top and pressed down.

The paper was larger than the block so I got a boarder around it. As you can see in the photo below.

IMAG2267

This time it was done a little differently…

To colour my background I had a piece of Window sheet larger than the watercolour paper.

I added colour with the Stampin’ Write markers to the window sheet and spritzed with water, until the water and ink beaded.

Then very carefully and quickly flip over and place onto of the watercolour paper.

Rub the window sheet moving the colour around a little.

I did a practice run on a scrap of watercolour paper to make sure the colours mixed well…you don’t want to end up with “MUD”.

You can’t really see but I used Peakaboo Peach at the bottom and Marina Mist at the top.

Once dry I layered stamps from different stamp sets on top.

In Soft Sky I stamped the ink splatter from Awesomely Artistic..as the Marina Mist has been watered down with the water colouring the Soft Sky shows up.

I had one idea in mind when I started but have ended up with something very different.

This is where my ideas changed ….at this point I decided to add some flowers and I wanted a watercolour look to them.

I used the Penned and painted Stamp set for the flowers. This is a 3 step stamp set but I didn’t used the outline stamps. I wanted a soft watercolour feel.

I inked up the first stamp and stamped off before stamping the first part of my flower and then inked the second part in full strength  I did this with all the flowers and leaves.

Once that was all completed the edges were sponged in the Soft Sky and then in Marina Mist.

The Birthday Sentiment was taken from Balloon Adventures from the Occasions catalogue and Stamped in Soft Suede. the framelit was from the Rose Garden Thinlits and sponged around the edges in soft Sky and marina Mist. With a bit of Bakers Twine wrapped around and the sentiment sitting on top held up with Dimensionals.

The card is in Marina Mist with matting in Peakaboo Peach and Whisper White.

IMAG2275

This was a fun card to make and I didn’t have to be a watercolour artist…

Stampin’ Up! did for me.

IMAG2273a

I did these pages many years ago and the lady on the left is my Great Grandmother Catherine Jane Eade…I have spent days looking for details on her parents and grandparents.

Two things hinder this search…

  1. Were looking into mid to late 1800’s…that’s a long time ago…
  2. Here heritage is Australian Aborigine (so I have been told…by Great Aunts from my Grandmothers Family who knew her) and information is sketchy.

Anyway hope to talk to some of my mothers cousins over coming months to see what they can tell me.

Well that’s it for this weeks highlights…jump onto Pinterest you may find some interesting stuff. Check out my page while your there.

Rose Wonder

At the end of January I participated in a new market that started in December just before Christmas…

The Southern Highlands Night markets. The store i was on was run by Highlands Handmade a shop I have my cards and other hand made items in. A customer came along and liked a card I had but she wanted it in different colours……so here is the card I made her.

IMAG2259

The stamp set is Rose Wonder by Stampin’ Up!

The rose was stamped onto Shimmery White cardstock using Stazon Ink and then watercoloured using the Stamp Pads and Aqua Painters..

But unfortunately the Real Red ink wasn’t coming out as dark as I would have liked it.

So what I did was with the Real Red watercolour pencil I went over it ti highlight the areas I wanted darker.

The leaves were also done using the watercolour pencils.

So I did a quick tip video on using the watercolour pencils over the top of the watercolouring done with the inks.

Hope you find this useful..

Global Design Project 073 | Colour Challenge

Hi! Welcome to my Blog…

How have you all been coping with the extreme heat we have been having over the last few days?

Thankfully it has now cooled down here in Moss Vale and tonight I should be able to get a good nights sleep.

Today I have been playing along with this weeks colour challenge.

GDP_Colour_Challenge73_PNGToday I have made two cards and both are very different.

One is softer and the other very bright in colour.

IMAG2264

With this card i used the Floral Phases Stamp Set.along with the Stampin’ Write Markers.

I coloured in each section of the stamp with the markers and then breathed on the stamp to re-moist

and stamped on the Card.

IMAG2267

Earlier today I watched a great video by Patty Bennett –

How to stamp the High Tide Lighthouse and watercolor background from Stampin’ UP!

I loved the way she did the water colour background. I have done this before but only colouring the block with the markers.

Patty used the Stamp pads to colour the “Block” and which gives the strength and brightness of colour.

the flower was then embossed with Black embossing Powder..

Enjoy!

Neutrals such as Black, Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Kraft, Sahara Sand and Metallic’s can also be used.

These beautiful soft colours work well together and the Garden Green even though is a strong colour works in well.

I have teamed these colours Sahara Sand which has a slight green tone to the soft neutral colour.

IMAG2241

  • The card front is stamped with the Delicate Details from the Sale-A-Bration Catalogue in Mint Macaron.
  • The edges sponged in Wisteria Wonder and then sponged on top with the Mint Macaron just to soften the Wisteria Wonder.
