Faux Linen with Oh So Eclectic from Stampin’ Up!

I’m still in love with the “Oh So Eclectic” Bundle (145356) by Stampin’ Up! and this week I have teamed it up with a new (for me) technique Faux Linen.

This card I have made as part of the Global Design Project Colour Challenge #97

The Faux Linen technique uses the Stampin’ Up! Glossy White Cardstock 144241 and some sandpaper!

I really like the effect…its a bit like that old linen chair that Grandma had in the lounge, a bit worn and well loved and oh so comfortable……

image showing Oh So Eclectic and Faux linen

Splitcoast Stampers have a great Tutorial HERE and video showing how you to can achieve this effect.

The colours I used in this card are from this weeks GDP Challenge..

GDP097

How to Make this card…

Faux linen Panel –  Glossy White Cardstock 7 x 10.5 cm stamped with the crosshatch leaf stamp in Wild Wasabi, sand with sandpaper and sponge with Crumb Cake **Re: the Tutorial HERE.

Adhere Basic Black mat to Crumb Cake card front – Basic Black mat cut at 9.5 x 13.8…

Adhere Faux Linen panel to upper right hand corner of basic Black mat.

Leaves stamped onto Whisper White cardstock in Wild wasabi and cut out using matching framelits.

Flowers from Eclectic Layers Thinlit Dies 143774 (part of the Oh So Eclectic Bundle) cut from Berry Burst cardstock

Sentiment Happy Birthday is from the Thoughful Banners 141614 stamp set and is stamped on Basic Black cardstock in VersaMark and Heat embossed in White embossing powder.

Adhere leaves and flowers with either muilti Purpose Glue or fine tip Glue Pen.

Using Glue Dots adhere the Happy Birthday banner and Linen Thread bow.

Have a go at the Faux Linen Technique, I’m sure you will enjoy doing it the same as I have. If you have any questions just contact me.

Rose Garden from Stampin’ Up!

Hi, thanks for joining me this week for another challenge by Global Design Project #096

The challenge they have given us is a “CASE the Designer”…..

The designer we are CASing is Tanja Kolar and her beautiful card below.

GDP096

When CASing a project we can take any element we like from the card or use all of them.

I really like the layout that Tanja has used so will be keeping to the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies and adding the Rose Garden Thinlits Dies by Stampin’ Up!.

This is a simple card and has very little stamping.

image showing Stampin Up Rose Garden Thinlits

How to make this Card……
  • In Whisper White cardstock I have cut my card base 21 x 14.5 cm and scored at 10.5cm – fold along score line
  • Also in Whisper White cut the 2 largest squares from the Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies
  • In Blushing Bride I cut the mat at 9.8 x 13.7cm and attached to front of card with Multi-purpose glue
  • From a small piece of Blushing Bride cardstock cut the small Rose from the Rose Garden Thinlits Dies.
  • Using the larger Rose dye cut out one set of leaf section only in Pear Pizzazz.
  • The sentiment comes from the Watercolour Wings stamp set and is stamped in Basic Black. the easiest way to do this is to lay the bottom stitched square where it is going to go and then stamp the sentiment.
  • At this point I glued the bottom square down and also glued down the leaf…I only added glue on the bottom part of leaf as this will be covered by the top square
  • Add dimensionals to back of smaller square and adhere on top
  • I placed a glue dot under the Rose folding the dot so it is hidden and looped the Cooper thread a few times around the back. With a couple of dots of Multi-purpose glue to the back of the rose add to the top square.

Its done! A simple card but WOW! I think it looks great….

Now all the products I have used you can purchase from my shop and will be listed below. just click on the item your interested in and it will take you to my SHOP

Thank you for looking at my card, if there is anything I can help you with please contact me and don’t forget to sign up for my weekly newsletter for all the latest news.

How to Create your own Mask to use with Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste….

Hi and welcome to Butterflys and Bows…

Its time for another challenge by Global Design Project #GDP094 and they have given us this week a sketch to inspire us….

If you haven’t had chance as yet to see the challenge and what the Design Team have created then go and have a look HERE

02 GDPD094

A week  or so ago I shared with you a video by Stampin’ Up! highlighting a new product Embossing Paste and the tools required.

All these products can be purchased through my shop by clicking on the pictures below

Capture1Capture3Capture2

At last my delivery arrived and in my delivery was the Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste and tools…so when I saw what the challenge from Global Design Project

I new what I wanted to do..

IMAG0874

The background for this card was created with Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste and I made my own mask..

Other products I used where Stampin’ Up! Rose Garden Thinlits and sentiment is made from the Stampin’ Up! Thoughtful Banners Stamp Set.

How to Create your own Mask to use with Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste….

  • I created a mask for my card from a piece of Stampin’ Up! Window Sheet…HINT- Make sure it is larger than the card you are working on, mine was smaller and I got paste onto the outer edges of cardstock. Thankfully I was trimming it down to fit.
  • On my grid paper I drew up the mask I wanted to create, the areas blocked out are the areas I want to cut and remove. Place the window sheet over the top and adhered down with washi tapeimage showing Mask to be cut
  • With a craft knife and metal ruler I cut away the areas not required…there is a self healing mat under my grid paper. If I was cutting curves I would have a glass mat to allow for movement and slip and I would have drawn the image onto window sheet with a permanent marker before cutting.

image showing craft knife

  • Remove window sheet from grid paper and its ready to use.

image showing cut window sheet

  • Place your mask over your cardstock and fix into place with Washi Tape and apply Embossing Paste

image showing Embossing Paste

*Clean your Mask and tools straight away before Embossing Paste dries as it will not remove once dry.

To complete the card I cut the leaves in Lemon Lime Twist cardstock and 2 small flowers in Berry Burst from the Rose Garden Thinlits. I layered the Leaf and one of the flowers on top of the other and adhered to card front. The sentiment is two stamps..I Love You & So Much – I lined these up together on the block and used Basic Black Ink to Stamp onto the vellum. I made the length of the vellum longer than card front so I could wrap around to back of the card and adhered with a small amount of Multi Purpose Glue. The second flower was then adhere to the vellum – hiding any glue used on the vellum underneath. The Berry Burst Mat was attached to the card base and the card front raised up above with Stampin’ Up! Dimensionals.

Hope you like my card and if you are wanting any of the products used here are all the links back to my store, any questions please contact me.

Have a wonderful day…and Keep on Stampin’

Swirly Scribbles from Stampin’ Up!

Good Morning and welcome to Butterflys and Bows…

This weeks challenge by the Global Design Challenge team is a Colour Challenge GDP#093 and the colours we are playing with are ……

GDP093_Colour_ChallengeWho’s loving these new In-Colours by Stampin’ Up!?….I am.

Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst from the new In-Colours teamed with Pool Party from the Subtle Collection….WOW! What a great combo..

The Pool Party adds a sense of Ahhhh! to this combination, that little bit of calm with those 2 great vibrant colours.

I love the FUN these colours bring out..they remind me of hot summers at the beach or at the pool, or a garden in full bloom and the feelings of laughter and playfulness.

So I wanted to follow through with this and used the Stampin’ Up! Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies and lots of layers of colour.

IMAG0831

I love the Swirly Scribbles and how they can be layered or entwined like I have done here.

I have also added a layer of the Berry Burst crackle paper from  Color Theory Designer Series Paper Stack by Stampin’ Up!

The sentiment used comes from Watercolor Wings Stamp Set.

If you wish to give this card a go, here are all the measurements I used.

How to make my Swirly Scribbles Card……

Capturemm

Method-

  1. Cut the Swirly Scribbles from the Berry Burst (9 x 9), Lemon Lime Twist (7 x 7), Pool Party (6 x 6)
  2. Stamp sentiment on Whisper White and flag the right hand side using Basic Black Archival Ink.
  3. Fold along score line on card Base and adhere Lemon Lime Twist Matt.
  4. Adhere the crackle paper mat to Pool Party mat (this is not adhered to the Lemon Lime twist as yet), I use Multi Purpose glue for this as it allows time to get the paper in the right place.
  5. Entwine the Berry Burst and Lemon Lime Twist Swirls and adhere to top of card also attach tag, slipping it over and under swirls.
  6. Adhere Pool Party swirl to center Berry Burst swirl
  7. Add Dimensionals to Pool Party mat and adhere to Lemon Lime Twist Matt
  8. Adhere Whisper What Matt to the inside of the card.

Now if you are wanting to Purchase any of these items to make this card then here is a link to these products at My Store…

Hope you have enjoyed today’s card any questions please contact me

Global Design Project 090 | Sketch Challenge

Hi and welcome to my Blog this week..

Its another Global Design Project Challenge 090…and this week is Sketch Challenge week.

Have you had a chance to go and check out the winners from last weeks challenge..there were some fantastic cards.

HERE is the link if you didn’t.

Well, now for this weeks challenge……

GDP090

This week I received my delivery of goodies in a “Big Brown Box” otherwise known as a “BBB” and one of the items I received was the Ribbon of Courage. A wonder stamp set that also comes with matching Framlits and can be purchased as a bundle. Giving you a 10% saving…

So I had to use it, didn’t I!

IMAG0690

The card stock I used for the card base is Dapper Denim and the heart is also in Dapper Denim with White Embossing. Sitting at a slight angle is a piece of the Crackle paper from the Colour Theory Designer Series Paper Stack. ……Loving this stack of papers.

The sentiment is stamped onto a piece of Basic Black and that sentiment comes from Flourishing Phrases and again has been embossed with white embossing powder.

The heart and sentiment are sitting on a Whisper White circle cut with the Stitched Shapes Framelits and that is then sitting on top of some Linen thread, wrapped around the card front a couple of times and finished with a bow.

A simple little card and an easy card to duplicate…I hope you have enjoyed my card.

Global Design Project 089 | Colour Challenge

Hi and Welcome to Butterflys and Bows

Did you see the Winners from last weeks GBP #088…Here is a link to the page so you can see the great cards that won

Winners – Global Design Project #88

I was also one of the “Special Mention” winners with the card below….so exciting!

Rose wonder GDP

This week we are back to a Colour Challenge..

I really enjoy doing these challenges and I think the colour challenges are my favorite as they make me use colours I may not normally use.

It so easy to get stuck in using the same colours over and over again.

GDP089_Colour_ChallengeThis week I’m also using a stamp set I would most likely not have bought if it was left up to me.

I won this set at the Stampin’ Up! on Stage event in April. I have been putting off using it as I just wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it. But these colours really work with it, so I hope you like my card.

IMAG0655

This set is called Fabulous Flamingo 143758 and will be available to order as from the 1st June.

It is a 3 step stamp….and 3 step stamps and me always have a battle to who is going to win….I like them but I always have trouble lining everything up. Thankfully I had my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig handy.

stamp-ma

Stamp-a-ma-jig 101049

The Stamp-a-ma-jig is great for when you need to line up titles or images as the 2 or 3 step stamping.

Now as I said the Fabulous Flamingo is a 3 step process and I have used only 2 colours being Calypso Coral and Basic Black, but as you can see I have 2 tones in the Calypso Coral.

This is how I did it…….

  • Using the solid body image I inked it up with the Calypso Coral and then stamped off twice on a piece of scratch paper. This makes the image much lighter.
  • With the full body Image stamp and the Stamp-a-ma-jig stamp the image with full strength ink. I have added a Video I found on YouTube by The Mad Stamper on how to use this great tool.
  • I then stamped the outline images doing the legs and then the body with Basic Black again using the Stamp-a-ma-jig.

Hope you like my entry in this weeks challenge. Please go to Global Design Project and have a look at what others have done for this challenge.

Global Design Project 088 | Case the Designer

Welcome to Butterflys and Bows and to the Global Design Challenge #088

This week we are casing the Shawn de Oliveira.

GDP088_ShawnShawn has used the “Rose Garden Thinlits” in creating his  beautiful card and the sentiment is from the coordinating stamp set “Rose Wonder”

For my take on Shawn’s card I have used the Rose Wonder stamp set and used Stampin’ Up! Water colour pencils to colour the rose.

I had so much fun making this card …I made two of them.

IMAG0632

The image was stamped onto Shimmery White card stock with the Archival Black Ink…make sure you leave this to dry or heat set with the heat gun before colouring.

The watercolour pencils are so soft and easy to use with the Blender pen….

The Yellow Rose I used the Daffodil Delight and Melon Mambo pencils to colour the rose and Old Olive with a little Early Espresso for the leaves.

For the pink rose i used Melon mambo and added highlights with Rich Razzleberry, leaving some white areas. The leaves were also done with Old Olive and early Espesso but I also added a little Real Red into the leaves.

It is so relaxing sitting by the heater last night colouring, what a great way to release the days stresses.

Global Design Project 087 | Theme Challenge

Hi and Welcome to Butterflys and Bows

Wow! What a great week……the card I entered in last weeks Global Design Project was a winner, along with 2 other cards.

Winner – Global Design Project #86

aaaa

Thanks Global Design Project.

This week the theme for Global Design project # 087 is Cooking/Baking/Making

GDP87

Using the only stamp set I had with anything to do with Cooking, Baking or making is “Sprinkles of Life”

IMAG0612

This week I wanted to do a card with bright colour….whats better than a bright little Birthday Cup Cake.

Using the colours Crushed Curry, Mellon Mambo and Bermuda Bay I sponged a piece of Whisper White blending the colours together. From this piece the cake top was punched out.

the base of the cup cake was stamped onto Crumb Cake card with Soft Suede Stampin’ Pad and “Fussy Cut”.

The colours used in the Cake Top were repeated again in the card and Card front.

Winners – Global Design Project #85

Its time again for

Global Design Project Challenge #086

and this week it is a Sketch Challenge.

17358661_10155989306812222_9088801985874942376_oThis is a great little sketch and I love the layers under the front panel.

I have decided it use one of the new incoming Designer Series Papers and co-ordinating Stamp Sets ….so this is a sneak peak at whats to come.

IMAG0562

Isn’t this sweet!

I love the softness of these papers and the stamp set goes so well with it.

The images I have stamped are in Calypso Coral and here’s a little HINT for you.

When I stamped the Flowers I stamped of before stamping the darker one and then stamped again for the lighter flower,

otherwise the Calypso Coral can be too strong.

Hope you enjoyed seeing this weeks card.

Global Design Project 085 | Colour Challenge

Welcome to Butterflys and Bows!

Sorry I have been missing in action this week……life has gotten the better of me and have not been well.

But here I am back again with another challenge from Global Design Project.

But before I get into that I want to say thanks to everyone for liking the card I did last week for Global Design Project.

Here it is again..

PicMonkey Collage

and it was one of the three winners….

So congratulations to the others and thanks Global Design Project.

So back to this week and this weeks challenge!

GDP85

And we can only use 3 of these 2015-2017 In-Colours…..

I have been trying to get my head around this afternoon!

What 3 colours do I choose and what am I going to do!

Started off with one idea but the family said “NO!, try again”

OK, what now!

So here is what I can up with. Its a sneak peak of a NEW stamp set and some old favorites, which will be staying around.

So the 3 colours I choose are…Tip-Top Taupe, Watermelon Wonder and Delightful Dijon.

IMAG0551

I love this Pocket Stamp set and the sentiments that go with it. It will be great with any age group and Boys or Girls.

The sentiments are so 70’s and Tip-Top Taupe reminds me so much of my favorite jeans from way back then….

Yep….the 70’s!

And the 70’s was about “flares- jeans or Bell Bottoms” and “Flower Power”….

Well for me anyway!

What did I do on this card……
  • The sentiment and edges have been embossed with cooper embossing powder.
  • Some of the pansy’s were stamped in full strength ink and others were stamped off
  • Extra “Dazzle” added with some rhinestones

So I hope you like my trip into the past and this card.
