Flowering Zinnias

Our theme this month for the Let’s Craft Together Blog Hop is a ‘Water colour Challenge’ by Julia and I am using the Simply Zinnias Bundle by Stampin’ Up!®. The Simply Zinnias Bundle is part of Flowering Zinnias Suite Collection in the Online Exclusives.

Zinnias are beautiful and vibrant flowers, so I have tried to replicate with in my water colour flowers.

How to….

  • Flowers & Leaves
    • Using the Fluid 100 Water Colour Paper, I cut 3 sheets in half and coloured each sheet in a different colour. The bottles of Reinkers are the best to use for this technique as you may require a few drops of colour to get the depth of colour you want. Work with one sheet and one colour at a time, wet the sheet of water colour paper generously with a spray bottle of water. With a water painter add ink to the wet surface and let the colour spread. Don’t worry if the colour isn’t even, you want it to have texture – light and dark areas. Tilt the paper so the ink flows all over the paper, add more colour if you want more depth. I used the same technique in another card earlier in the year – Paper Florist Dies.
    • Once the water colour paper is dry die cut flowers and leaves.
    • The colours I used are..
      • Sweet Sorbet
      • Daffodil Delight
      • Orchid Oasis
      • Granny Apple Green
      • Mossy Meadow
    • The flower centers & stamen I cut from cardstock – Basic Black, Sweet Sorbet, Daffodil Delight and Orchid Oasis. The stamenn I also brushed with Wink of Stella for a bit of sparkle.
    • Adhere all the flowers together and set aside.
  • Zinnia 3D Embossing Folder
    • The Basic White card front I embossed with the Zinnia 3D Embossing Folder. This is a stunning embossing folder of zinnia flowers and leaves in a outline image. This just gives some texture behind the flowers and the impression of the flowerbed of Zinnias.
  • Sentiment
  • Card Insert
    • The card insert I stamped with the Zinnia flower stamp in Memento Tuxedo Black in the bottom right corner
    • The insert was matted with Basic Black cardstock
