Re-United!…the story behind my page…..

On the 5th of October my husband and I went to Leeton for my ‘Leeton High School 1979 Year 10 Reunion’. It was great seeing everyone again.

There were 2 friends I was waiting to see and one of them was Coral, my best friend since Year 6 Primary School. We had not seen each other since my parents moved away from Leeton, approx. 20 years. It took a little while as we both stood back from each other, maybe a little shy, not sure on what the other thought. But before too long we were in each others arms hugging and crying together. The long awaited moment had come. We look a bit older, she is now a grandmother and my children now all grown up. But standing in our old school yard it felt like all those years had come back and we were together again.

My husband was talking photo’s for me and he captured the moment we hugged…no words were spoken, we didn’t need to say much we were so glad to be together again.

The idea for my page came from a monthly Challenge on Scrapbooking Gobal Stampin’ Up!.

Layout Sketches, Page Maps, Page Templates…

Layout sketches are great if your not sure where to start, they give you an idea to start designing from. You can turn them around, add different elements or just copy just like they are.

The circle images were stamped using the Swirly Frames stamps and stamped with Craft Stampin’ Pad -Whisper White. Once dry the circles were coloured using Stampin’ Up!® Watercolour Pencils.

Christmas is fast approaching…have you started your shopping yet?…What about your Christmas cards?

I’m starting to get mine ready now, can’t wait to the last minute. I love giving hand made cards, it makes the gift of giving so personal even something as small as a card.

Stampin’ Up!® have some amazing Christmas stamp sets and bundles in their Holiday Catalogue this year. Sometimes its hard to choose which one you want or maybe you just want them all! One that I really wanted was ‘God’s Peace” because of the Biblical message it shares.

With this card I wanted the message from Luke 2:10-11 to be the focal point, so I kept the card design very simple.

The technique used is called Resist Embossed, its not hard to do and I think looks very effective. The Message isn’t lost or over powered by the image and the image is still there.

How do you do Resist Embossed Technique?

With all the stamping I used the Stamparatus, so I could make sure I got good clean images.

  1. Stamped the Bible Verse Luke 2:10-11 or background stamp you are using.
  2. Rub Embossing Buddy over the area where image was  to be stamped
  3. Stamp image in VersaMark, and heat emboss using  Clear Stampin’ Embossing Powder. * If you embossed the image first and then stamped the verse you would have parts of the verse missing where it goes over the embossing . As the ink resists the embossing. So by stamping the verse first and then emboss you still have the verse intact.
  4. With a sponge or dauber very lightly blend colour over the top of the embossed image blending the edges out to white. The embossed image then comes to life like magic. Use a soft cloth to rub off any excess ink stilling on the surface of the embossed area.

Have you ever had an idea, that just rolled around in your head until you tried it ?

I have had this idea rolling around in my head for a few weeks…..

Bright intense colours blending into one another, with some sort of design over the top. Well my head was spinning for a couple of weeks with these ideas, working out how I could do it.

The trick is when you get these ideas run with it, play and have some fun. It may not work the first time you try it, but then it just may.

This card was made using Stampin’ Up!® Products

  • Pigment Sprinkles
  • Basic Pattern Decorative Masks
  • White Craft Ink
  • Shimmery White Cardstock

I was so pleased with the way my idea came together I made another 2 cards.

What you can do with your off-cuts..

What do you do with all those strips of of cardstock left over from the cards you make?

How do you use them or do you just put them in the bin….

Well I have found a use and a simple one and I am sure that many of you have also thought of this one.

For this card I used A4 Printer Paper and adhered the strips together with snail adhesive before cutting down to the size with the Stitched Rectangle Dies 148551.

Stamp set used is the Everything Amazing Photopolmer 149340 and embossed using the NEW Shimmery White Stampin’ Embossing Powder 149511 and Gold Stampin’ Embossing Powder 109129.

Hint and tips:

  • In using A4 Printer Paper and not cardstock, your not adding extra weight and thickness to your card.
  • Make sure you have your embossing Buddy handy when using the Stampin’ Embossing Powders.
  • Don’t forget to use your Embossing Buddy to remove any static and oils that may hold embossing powder in places you don’t want it.

My Little Punk Rocker

 Welcome to my Blog and coming with me on another Scrapbooking adventure with Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop.

Last month was the first time that I had taken part in the Scrapbooking Global Blog Hop…It was so much fun I decided to do it again.

September our Guest Designer is Sherry Roth.
She has set her theme as ‘What Little Boys Are Made Of’

My boys are all young men now, so I sifted through all my old photo’s that I haven’t scrapped and found some I really love and have been wanting to do. I think I took about 30 photo’s of my son Patrick all dressed up as a ‘Punk Rocker’ for a Joey Scout Adventure Night. He was such a character hamming it up in front of the camera and of course I have them all on ‘film’….well digital!

I wanted the page to be fun and bright. I used ‘See a Silhouette’ Designer Series Paper as my inspiration for colour. The layout idea was cased by a sketch found on Pinterest, a great resource when looking for ideas. You can then make it your own by changing direction of photos and elements. Here I changed photo size, direction and title placement.

Tips and Tricks…

My title I printed onto a piece of ‘Overhead Transparency Film’ using my computer and Ink Jet Printer. I have had this for years and I believe you can still purchase this product. One side of the sheet has a special coating which allows ink to adhere to the transparency and dries quickly.

On this page I added two rows of stitching in black thread. If you use your sewing machine for sewing fabrics as I do. Make sure you have a sewing needle for just working with paper, as the paper will dull your needle. Your needle size should be around a 60 or 70, as you want the thread to fill the hole your needle has made. Fabric will close over a little but paper once the hole is there that’s it..that’s the size you have.

Beautiful Friendship

Beautiful Friendship stamps 149252 by Stampin’ Up! are a must to have in your stamp stash. They are simple to use and so easy to build up  a beautiful arrangement of flowers for any occasion.

Today I have paired it up with one of the sentiments from the Strong & Beautiful stamps 148732. I used this set because it is a a very girly sort of card and I want to build someone else up as well as myself.

The other day I took a tumble and besides my body being a bit sore so was my pride and self thoughts about myself. I wanted to remind myself that I am also ‘Resilient, strong and beautiful’…..as we all are.

Tips and Tricks…

The ‘Beautiful Friendship’ Stamps are a Distinktive and Photopolymer stamps ….so there are some tips to remember when using them.

  • Use the Stampin’ Pierce Mat 126199 under your work to give you a nice clear image.
  • If your Stampin’ Pad is new and very juicy use a Clear block to push some of the ink on your pad to one side. By using less ink you get a clear image and all those details will show up.
  • If your stamps are ‘New’ – never used…Ink them up and stamp off onto a piece of scrap paper and clean the a couple of times. This removes any residue on the surface of your stamps and will help also in achieving that perfect image.
  • The Clear Epoxy Droplets I used I coloured with my Stampin’ Blends…..you can customise them to suit your project.
  • I only used one side of the Timeless Label Punch 149516 punch… to do this you cut your card stock to the width of the punch and then thread it through from the top and then out through the slot where you would normally place your cardstock.

It’s back to School

Welcome to my Blog…today I’m taking part in a Blog Hop with Scrapbooking Global. This is the first time I have hopped with them so this will be fun. The theme this month is ‘Back to School”

This theme is so appropriate right now as recently I have been contacted by my Class mates from 1979 in regards to us all getting together later this year. It’s so exciting as a lot of these people I haven’t seen in 40 years…WOW! ….. 40 years since finishing Year 10, that’s a long time. Going through old school photo’s & reliving memories I came across this photo taken the year before in 1978 at a Year 9 School Excursion to the Illawarra region. Posting this on our FB Group everyone one commented on this was one of the best times they remember from school. This photo was taken of our group…there were so many of us. There were approx 130 in our year and about 90 went on the trip.

For this layout I have kept it very simple with the photo being the ‘Hero’.

Everything Amazing…….’Wishing you an AMAZING Birthday, You will do AMAZING Things and You are an AMAZING Friend’….It make’s my heart sing when I tell someone how AMAZING they are and Stampin’ Up! have made it easy to do this with this stamp set.

This is one of those stamp sets that you may miss. It is recommended to use with the Stamparatus but because it is a photopolymer you can see through it to line up the sentiments.

On Saturday 27th July, I ran ‘Southern Highlands Cardmaking Day’ ….. This was a Demonstrator Only Event and it was so much fun. It’s great to get together with others that have the same interest in crafting – Card making. It’s great to share ideas, experiences and to learn together.

Everyone a Mystery Bag Challenge. Everyone received the Everything Amazing stamp set, a piece of See a Silhouette Designer Series Paper 149443, co-ordinating cardstock, a length of Crinkle Seam Binding Ribbon 149444 and either some Frosted & Clear Epoxy Droplets 148583.

This was not an easy challenge but most people came up with some great ideas. Well since I gave them the challenge I thought I’d better have one for them to see as an example. I’m really please with how this turned out…What do you think?

Passing Out Parade..

 ‘Come Sail Away’ Suite by Stampin’ Up! was perfect to go with my son’s ‘Passing Out Parade’ photo’s taken at HMAS Creswell in 2015. This was 2 day event with a Sunset Parade the evening before and then the Passing Out Parade the following day. We are so proud of Hayden and he looks so smart in his uniform.

His Grandparents and brother’s, Robert and Patrick, were able to be with us also.

This page I completed as part of a challenge by Scrapbooking Global- Stampin’ Up!

June Challenge is a Bossy Scrapper one.
That means I tell you what you MUST have on your Layout..you can add extra items if you wish but you must include the following.

You are simply…WONDERFUL

“You are simply Wonderful” what a beautiful statement and something I know we would love to hear.

This stamp ‘Grow & Bloom’, is from the 2019-2020 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue. You can purchase this as a Bundle with the Budding Blooms Dies with a 10% discount.

The flowers I have coloured using Stampin’ Up! Blends – Daffodil Delight, Mango Melody, Calypso Coral, Highland Heather, Flirty Flamingo, Pool Party, Granny Apple Green and Poppy Parade. All of these colours ‘POP’ against the black.

The sentiment – You are simply Wonderful’ was Heat embossed using Stampin’ Up! White Embossing Powder onto a strip of Basic Black cardstock. The flowers were then attached to the back of the strip.

I have also used the Buffalo Check Stamp for my background and have stamped it multiple times at different angles using Momento Ink onto Whisper White cardstock. This gives it a country grunge look.
