What lead me to Stampin’ Up!…Join me on a great Adventure.

What came before cards?

or

What other crafts do you do besides making cards?

I love CRAFT….it was more a case of what didn’t I do.

Sew, Knit,Tapestry, Cross stitch, Silk ribbon Emb., Pulled thread…oh’ the list goes on!

I did anything I could get my hands on, tried everything…

Here is a quick run down of what lead me to now…

  • My mother was a sewed and enjoyed crafts – I had the best fancy dress costumes, decorated bike or Easter bonnet. Then there was the decorated birthday cakes..Mum did it all.
  • I was given my first sewing machine at the age of 8 years old- it was a Singer…and not just a toy one. It did a real sewing stitch…I still have it.

vintage-golden-panoramic-singer-childrens-toy-sewing-machine-_1

  • Learn’t to sew, knit. Joined a Art class – Children’s Art Course, Did a weekend course in Bobbin Lace making.
  • Left school and went on to study Fashion Technology through TAFE. Then worked as a machinist in a clothing factory (putting in zippers, 50 a day to make a days wage, more than 50 gave you a bonus).
  • Went into retail selling fabric…started at Home Yardage….now that’s a blast from the past…who remembers them?
  • Did 2 years doing an Embroidery Course before it was canceled
  • Married the best man in the world (or so I think) and had 2 beautiful boys.
  • Moved to Southern Highlands (from living in the inner suburbs of Sydney)
  • Joined Embroiders Guild…learn’t lots of different techniques
  • Heard about Scrapbooking at a Home Show
  • Joined Creative Memories
  • Had 2 more boys……
  • Joined a Design team for Scrappy Sisters (local Scrapbboking Shop)
  • Started my own business…..Scrapbooking Angels – putting together albums for others
  • Packed everything up and put into storage to renovate our home….

Why card making and Stampin’ Up! ?

Creating cards and Stampin’ Up! came about because I had a need to craft. Joe, our boys and I had to renovate the house we lived in. So everything was packed into boxes.

After 6mths living in a caravan and another 6mths living in a dusty house I was itching to do some sort of craft. I had attended a couple of Stampin’ Up! card workshops and liked what I saw.

It was something (at the time) I could store in a box and do anywhere. Anywhere was my kitchen. which was in those days a fold up table in the door way of the shed with a BBQ at one end and a potable cook top at the other.

img_6415

Here I am cooking a cake in my kitchen on top of the BBQ

So it became my hobby to start with…it was another 4 years before I joined Stampin’ Up!

Why Stampin’ Up! ?

I looked at a couple of business that sold stamps and Stampin’ Up! offered something unique.

  • There products were there own, you couldn’t just go and buy them on the shelf.
  • Everything coordinated, I didn’t have to search for matching product…they had it
  • Their prices were reasonable….
  • The quality was good  …so good value.
  • Good verity of stamps, inks and embelishments
  • Monthly Min sales – was and still is achievable

So as they say the rest is HISTORY

I joined!

5 years down the track nothing has changed (except I don’t cook in the shed any more),

I still enjoy card making.

I have gone back to Scrapbooking/Memory Keeping also.

And its with Stampin’ Up!…..its just called Project Life.

I’m no longer wanting to do this as a hobby (which you can) but I’m wanting to make this a business.

MY BUSINESS!

So that I can share it with everyone, why keep it to myself when there are others out there that will enjoy it as much as I am.

Join my team and come with me on a Journey, an adventure of a lifetime.

Global Design Project #062 | Sketch Challenge… Joy to the World

Joy to the world
The lord is come
Let earth receive her king
Let every heart prepare him room
And heaven and nature sing

This is a song we sing at Christmas when we celebrate the birth of Christ Jesus…..

It is a song that brings JOY to my heart at the thought

of the coming of our King.

Christmas is not only about gifts and food

its about the JOY in knowing Jesus Christ was Born.

The challenge by Global Design Project this week is a Sketch Challenge.

gdp062-sketch

My card today I have kept very simple.

I love plaids in the Warmth & Cheer Designer Series Paper Stack

(it must be the touch of Scottish in me).

And this card needed only a simple statement

“Joy to the World”.

This stamp can be found in the Tin of Tags Stamp Set..

it is such a wonderful set which I have used a number of times.

imag1627

I have kept the colour palette to the same colours as in the plaid,

using the black to add pop to the Garden Green and Crumb Cake.

The Dazzling Diamonds adds that bit of BLING!

One Sheet Wonder

I am so behind in my Blog, so please forgive me…..

Last month for my Monthly Card Class I decided to do Christmas Cards..

using the Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper.

I wanted something a bit different and I wanted to give the class something a little more advanced.

As I normally pre-cut everything for them.

So in my search on Pinterest. I came across One Sheet Wonder…

now this is something I have never done but it was something I’ve wanted to do.

I found a site where the designer used a 6″ square of paper and I loved the ideas.

The site is called “Poetic Artistry”, and her cards looked great.

so I hope Julee Tilman doesn’t mind but I CASED her beautiful work…

click HERE to go to Julee’s page.

All the information on how to make these cards are on this site.

I did change one of the cards a little to suit me and the products I had.

Also the charms are from last years Holiday Catalogue and are no longer available.

The Dazzling Diamonds Paper stars I sponged with Crumb Cake Ink,

as they needed to be dulled a little and it added to the aged affect.

The embossing folder is also no longer available and I didn’t have another I thought suitable.

I used the Tin of Tags and Oh, What Fun stamp sets.

I am very pleased how these cards turned out and I think so was my class.

What did I get up to last weekend!

What did I get up to last weekend……….

Last weekend I was invited to join a great group of women to share a weekend of

“SCRAPBOOKING”

Haven’t done what is now called by lots of scrappers as “Traditional Scrapbooking” for a long time.

We went to a lovely little place in the Blue Mountains called Kurajong, where we stayed at a place called

Merroo Christian Centre.

Click on the photo to see there great web site and hear the amazing Bell Birds.

As a child driving with my parents through this area I remember stopping and/or being told to wind down the windows to listen for the Bell Birds.

Waking up to them each morning was beautiful and brought back great memories.

merroo

So……what did I do while there.

Now, this was not a Stampin’ Up! event…..but I tried to stay using Stampin’ Up! products.

We were given some different challenges and the first one I did was this one.

14484973_10153945749963097_1617564980147513843_n

and here is my take on this layout..

2016-10-28-19-37-07

This photo was taken on my sisters farm in Lue, near Mudgee.

Here it is along with the Project Life page to go with it, I made my own cards to match.

2016-10-28-21-10-14

In the next Challenge page we were given a bag of goodies and had to use 2 items on our page…

everything thing in my bag was girly and I have “BOYS”

…the lovely Sheena suggested I turn the button over and use the other side.

The “button and word Cherish” came from my bag, the papers are discontinued Stampin’ Up!

Christmas paper and the floral print comes from the current “All Year Long” Project Life cards

2016-10-31-08-29-23

This is a few pages that I completed.

Scrapbooking doesn’t have to be just “Traditional” or just “Project Life”.

Sometimes there are those special moments/photo’s that need to be highlighted and Traditional Scrapping works well.

Have fun with what you are doing.

(By the way I completed over 23 pages…whooo Hooo!, 2009 album almost completed)

Book a workshop and let me show you and your friends how easy and simple it is…..gone are the days we spent hours or even days over one page (though you can still do this if you wish).

The colours in this weeks challenge are reminiscent of these Spring Time Blooms.

Using a simple water colour technique, I stamped tree image’s from the Totally Trees

Stamp Set onto water colour paper. Then with an Aqua Painter going over the image with water.

The tree trunks and the sentiment from Laying Love has been stamped in Basic Gray Ink.

The edges on the paper was sponged with Rich Razzelberry Ink.

“Enjoy the Little Things” such as spring and new growth.
