Who likes to colour in?

Hi guys, welcome again to my Blog.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, I did. On saturday night we had “Carols at the Lake”.

I live near a beautiful little town called Mittagong and its in the Southern highlands about an hour from Sydney. In not far the center of town we have lake called Lake Alexandra. Were there’s ducks, turtles and other wild bird life…..its a man made lake. It was used for water for the engines hauling coal to Fitzroy Iron Mines over 100 years ago. A very pretty spot with bush surrounding it….every second year we have carols down at the lake and it is so wonderful.

Anyway now I’m completely off track…who likes to colour in?

In January Stampin’ Up! will be releasing their new Occasions Catalogue and in this they have re-introduced watercolour pencils. Isn’t that wonderful…I couldn’t wait to get my hands on them. So I made sure I ordered them in my pre-order. You see as I demonstrator you get to order the new product early. So if your interested in joining me then that’s one of the bonus you get…

So I also had to get a stamp to colour in…..I couldn’t resist it. Its so cute!

We all love babies don’t we…I do and now my boys are all growing up. I’m allowed to think they are cute because I can just hand them back..

Opps….off track again!

Think I’d better show you what I have been playing with today.

imag1770

This is such simple cards.

  • I used the Basic Black (Archival Ink) and stamped the image into Shimmery White card stock. Allow the ink to dry or heat set with a heat gun.
  • With water colour pencil I lightly coloured the areas where I wanted colour and then went over with a Blender Pen.
  • I went back over some of the areas again to add highlights and again blender in with the Blender Pen
  • I like to leave some white space so I haven’t filled in all the areas with colour.

Hello December……Cont

Welcome again to my Blog.

Last week I started working on my Hello December 2016 project Life Album and sharing that with you.

Have you started yours yet?

In my blog last week I stated that “Today I started sorting my cards and planning where I’m going to place them…but I know this will change as I work my way through December.”

imag1761-1

It didn’t take long to start changing things, once I printed some photos. You have to stay flexible if you are doing your album this way…I am following a page plan that was shown to me by another Demonstrator. I like the look of the finished album but I think it would be by far easier to put in you photos first and then your cards as your are working with your photo’s rather against them. Doing it the way I’m doing I’m making the photos fit rather than finding a page that fits the photo.

The recommended steps to follow are.

  1. Place photos into pockets
  2. Put cards into pockets
  3. Journal
  4. Decorate with embellishments

But I’m going to keep going with what I have and see where this takes me.

Tip 3

I always work with “post it notes”…as events happen I write it down and stick to the page where its going. this way when you print your photos you know what page to put them

imag1758

Tip 4

Print your photos as you go…its a lot easier to remember what happened 2-3 days later than 4 weeks down the track.

Tip 5

Stay flexible to move Pocket pages around to suit photos

Global Design Project 065 | Colour Challenge – Hey, Chick!

I couldn’t resist it!

I really enjoyed working this this weeks Global Design Project Colour Challenge #065, so much I had to do another card.

gdp065

I had this card in mind the other day but I hadn’t received my pre-order for the Occasions Catalogue as yet, so I had to wait.

Well my order is here and so is the stamp set I so wanted share it with you.

Now this stamp set is one that has had to grow on me. At first I didn’t really like it that much but then seeing what others had done , it very quickly became a “I MUST GET”.

The stamp set is called “Hey, Chick”, it’s a Sale-A-Bration set and you can get this stamp set FREE when you spending $90.

Its a fun and it will be interesting to see how its going to be used. I think it will also be good for a “Hen’s Night”, what do you think?

imag1747

I have used the same technique  with this card as I did the last one, stamping  the image with the Early Espresso Ink and used my blender pen to move the ink about. But this time I have used some Real Red on her breast, head, tail and Crumb Cake on the feathers as well. After doing this I still felt this little chick needed some sparkle to bring her to life…so why not a bit of bling. Us girls can never have too much “BLING”, can we!

So there is just a touch of Gold Wink of Stella!

The back ground of this card I stamped with all the Chick images…now she looks like she is talking to one of the other girls.

To keep to the earthy country feel to this card (with Bling of course) I wrapped the card front with Real Red Bakers Twin and Linen thread.

Anyway hope you like my card, have a great day!

Global Design Project 065 | Colour Challenge

Good Morning…

Welcome again to my Blog.

Its Global Design Project time again and this week is a

“Colour Challenge”

gdp065

Wow!

What a great colour combination with 2 very strong colours.

As soon as I saw this I knew what I wanted to do and these colours work with this seasons Christmas papers from Candy Cane Lane Designer Series Paper (DSP).

My favorite stamp for this Christmas has to be the Merry Mice…they are just so adorable.

imag1740

This card is a very simple and quick card to put together.

What you require is…

Base – Crumb Cake 10.5 cm x 29.6 cm (1/2 A4 cut length wise), scored 14.8 cm

Early Espresso 10 x 14.4 cm

Candy Cane Lane DSP 9.5 x 13.9 cm

Crumb Cake 5 x 13.5 cm

Real Red 8 x 10 cm

Shimmery White 8 x 10 cm

The little mouse was so easy to do..

  • Stamp image on Shimmery White and using the Early Espresso Ink Pad
  • With the blender pen gentle draw out the colour from the stamped image to give him some highlights
  • Using the Oval Layering Framelits – cut the largest scalloped framelit in the Real Red, then with the size smaller in the straight edge framelit cut out the mouse. This will sit perfectly on top of each other. Adhere these two pieces together, I used the Multipurpose Liquid Glue as gives me the extra movement to get them both in the correct place
  • Use the banner Punch to cut a banner from the Crumb Cake and stamp your sentiment in Early Espresso
  • Layer the Early Espresso cardstock and DSP and adhere to the card front.
  • Glue the banner onto the card lining the top of banner with the top edge of DSP.
  • Add Dimensionals to the back of the mouse and adhere on top of the banner

Anther simple card to be sent to someone special for Christmas.

Global Design Project #064 | CASE the Designer

At last a day I could sit down and make a card…

this week has been one of those weeks driving the boys around.

This week we are CASE-ing Connie Collins.

Have I ever told you that Blue is my favorite colour and its so fresh looking teamed up with the yellow.

I have wanted to do something in this combination for a while now and teamed with the spots reminds me so much of a country garden.

gdp064

So today I’m going to Case this great colour combination…

imag1686

The Stampin’ Up! stamp set is called “Baby Bear” and this is the first time I have used it. Its one of those “WOW” stamps and I loved the way it came out.

The Bear is a three step Stamp, this means you have 3 stamps you layer on top of each other to achieve the finished effect.

You can either  stamp off your stamps to get lighter tones of one colour or do as I have done and used three different yellows, starting with the lightest and working up to the darkest. The bow I stamped off and then stamped full strength with the second stamp (only a two step)

I used the largest scalloped square from the Layering Square Framelits, as he only just fits. I then cut a large square to go under him..

I think he’s so cute….don’t you!

Old Memories……

Yesterday, my son Robert  was having a chat to his Dad about one of his subjects, Modern History. I reminded them that we have an old suitcase in the shed with lots of bits and pieces from Europe, brought over by my Father in-law.

My husbands family came from Croatia and moved to Australia after the War.

So we went in search for this suitcase…..

We found an old suitcase (thinking it was the one we were after), we cleaned it up and brought it inside.

imag1652

It was so funny because here was my 17 yr old son looking at this case and wondering how to open it.

“Are there keys?”

He had never seen a suitcase before with locks like this.

So I showed him how it opened and had a good laugh…how times have changed.

Unfortunately it wasn’t my father in-laws case but it was my mother in-laws.

We found her sewing box, old costume jewellery, photos and some Bibles (written in German and Croatian). We also found my husbands school records which he had thought were thrown out years ago.

imag1653

But the treasure we did find was my mother in-laws cook book, with all her hand written recipes.

What a find….but they are all written in Croatian. Now I just have to get translated.

imag1649

Last year my husband wanted to have a Croatian Christmas with traditional food and we didn’t know where this cook book was. So I down loaded recipes from the internet and we gave them a go.

It was a fun Christmas Lunch  and it was great trying different food to what we would normally have. I made sure that we took photo’s of me making these recipes and of them on our table for Christmas lunch. And put these photos into my 2016 Christmas Project Life Album…they are a great reminder.

christmas2015

So this year if I can get these recipes translated in time…I maybe able to make some of these goodies for Christmas lunch this year too…

So whats the reason behind all this..

Memories are great, get them out of those old suitcases and share them. take photos and remember the stories.

A great way to do this is through Memory Keeping and Project Life.

Project Life gives you a simple way to get photos into albums so you can tell the stories and share with family and friends.

Global Design Project #63 | Theme Challenge – Adventure

We are going on an ADVENTURE!

What type of ADVENTURE would you like to take?

Would you go some where or do something different?

Would it be a BIG adventure?

When I saw the challenge that Global Design Project gave us this week, it sent me in a spin.

ADVENTURE!

gdp063

I have no Adventure stamps….

but I was thinking of those really BIG ADVENTURES like….

  • Climbing mountains
  • Traveling to other countries
  • White water rafting
  • plus more

All those once in a life time experiences

Then there was those everyday LIFE ADVENTURES

  • Having a new Baby
  • Going on a family holiday
  • Taking your children to the Zoo
  • Starting something NEW

There are so many…

So I had to bring myself down from the mountains and look at my life

and those smaller ADVENTURES I experienced with my children.

When my boys turn 7, my husband takes then away for a one on one holiday

or ADVENTURE.

They decided that when they turned 10, I would get to take them away.

Its their choice where we go as long as its only a 2 hr drive and

we stay over night.

When Robert turned 10, he wanted to go to Sydney…..

that was his BIG adventure.

He wanted to go to the Aquarium, Zoo and Bondi Beach.

And here is my card, reminding me of the

BEST ADVENTURE

Robert and I shared.

imag1646

How, did I do this card?

Stamp Set- Seaside Shore

Techniques- Watercolour, Faux Watercolour

  1. Using water colour paper I gave the background a wash of Pool Party, Island Indigo and Pacific Point – let dry
  2. Using the stamp that looks like a row of large dots I randomly stamped vertically with Pool Party ink. Then went over with the Aqua Painter for a Faux Watercolour look.
  3. When that had dried I stamped the Seaweed with Island Indigo (stamped off) and again went over with Aqua Painter.
  4. Stamped bubbles in Smoky Slate
  5. Coloured in the shells with Stampin’ Write Markers  Large Watermellon Wonder & Smoky Slate,                                                                                          Small- Calypso Coral & Daffodil Delight
  6. Masked the shells and stamped starfish in Tip Top Taupe

*AFTER EACH STEP I WENT OVER WITH THE AQUA PAINTER- FROM STEP 2 and LET DRY

The Fish I stamped onto Shimmery White cardstock using Basic Black stamp pad and coloured with the Stampin’ Write Markers. Using colours- Crush Curry, Pool Party, Island Indigo, Daffodil Delight. Hand cut and mounted with Dimensionals.

The sentiment I variegated the colours through each row of words using the Stampin’ Write Markers in colours Pool Party, Island Indigo and Pacific Point, then breather onto the stamp and stamped down.

I love the look of cards that are matted or with layers, so I have used two layers of matting. The cardbase is in Island Indigo with the next layer in Pool Party. The water colour paper was matted onto a piece of Pacific Point Cardstock with Fast Fuse and dimensionals attached to back, then this attached to the card front.
